In what ways do children's family experiences influence their life chances? Do our personalities change throughout adulthood? How does adversity shape development and health? Do children and adults perceive the world differently? This course will help students answer these questions by providing an overview of both classic and current theory and knowledge regarding physiological, emotional, social, and psychological development across the life course. This course will highlight the Canadian and North American experience, however a cross-cultural perspective will also be adopted to show the importance of social and environmental influences on development. Implications of human development for health care professionals will be highlighted.
