Courses with this designation may be based on individual research by a student, or be used to introduce areas of study not otherwise taught. These courses provide an opportunity for both students and faculty to develop their special interests at an advanced level of inquiry.
Normally taken in the third or fourth year, courses in the 4000 series are open only to students who have already completed at least 21 credits of English, or to others by special permission of the Department.
