Church Point, NS, March 8, 2023 – The Youth in Care Bursary is a fully renewable bursary that covers all annual tuition fees for youth in care. The bursary aims to help youth who are in care and transitioning out of child protection systems to pursue degree studies at Université Sainte-Anne.
The Bursary is designed to recognize the unique and ongoing challenges faced by youth in Nova Scotia's child welfare system, including Mi'kmaw Family & Childrens Services of Nova Scotia.
In particular, this bursary marks an important contribution to the University's goal of improving access to post-secondary education for individuals facing financial barriers. The funds will support post-secondary education access among historically and currently marginalized groups (e.g., Indigenous peoples, racialized people, persons with disabilities, visible and invisible and members of the LGBTQ2+ community) as these groups are over-represented in the child welfare system in Nova Scotia.
During the 2022-2023 academic year, up to two bursaries will be awarded to youth from care who are enrolled at Université Sainte-Anne. Bursaries will be available for students in their first post-secondary degree. Two additional bursaries will be available in subsequent academic years.
