Church Point (NS), December 23, 2024- We are delighted to announce that the lighting installation for the athletics track and soccer field has just received DarkSky International certification.

This installation is the first international sports lighting project approved by DarkSky in their International Outdoor Sports Lighting program.

By adhering to the DarkSky criteria for Outdoor Sports Lighting, our athletics track and soccer field achieves the following:

  • Minimizes neighborhood lighting nuisance by greatly reducing local spill light and glare.
  • Manages high angle light pollution, thus dramatically decreasing offsite light trespass and sky glow.
  • Mitigates neighborhood light pollution and sky glow, which will benefit the environment, the astronomy community, and others impacted by poorly designed outdoor sports facilities.
  • Minimizes light output, thereby reducing energy consumption.

Achieving this certification confirms our willingness and commitment to preserve the natural environment in which our university community evolves.

DarkSky International is a U.S.-based nonprofit that supports a global community and movement dedicated to preserving and protecting the natural nighttime environment.

Université Sainte-Anne remains committed to installing night-sky-friendly devices, especially since both the Church Point and Tusket campuses are in the Acadian skies and Mi'kmaw lands - Starlight Reserve.
