By providing quality services to seniors in a remote area the Foyer contributes to greater community cohesion. The Foyer Père-Fiset has always maintained an excellent level of service and is actively involved in the training of Continuing Care Assistants. In addition, it plays an active role in the provision of services in French.

"We are delighted to be able to recognize an organization that clearly meets the criteria of the Louis E. Deveau Award. The Foyer Père-Fiset has a positive impact not only on community spirit, but also on our students. We count on their support and collaboration so that our students can make the most of their work placements and we are very grateful for that support"

About the Louis E. Deveau Award of Excellence

Université Sainte-Anne's college sector works closely with Nova Scotia businesses and community organizations to provide students with relevant work experience and in-house technical training. This collaboration with business is essential and enables Université Sainte-Anne to better adapt its training to the needs of the labour market and to connect its students with appropriate workplaces. This collaboration also makes it easier for our students to find employment at the end of their studies.

To celebrate these collaborations and the exemplary work of the companies and associations that work in our province and contribute to the economic and social development of our communities, Université Sainte-Anne will now award annually the Louis E. Deveau Award of Excellence to a Nova Scotia company or organization that stands out for its leading role in Nova Scotian society, and especially in Acadian and Francophone communities.

Louis E. Deveau, champion of Acadian culture, founded Acadian Seaplants in 1981, establishing the seaweed industry in Canada. He received his first degree and first honorary doctorate at Université Sainte-Anne, where he was Chancellor from 2006 to 2012. He holds three additional honorary degrees and numerous personal awards for his entrepreneurial skills. He was awarded the Order of Canada in 2004 and was registered with the Nova Scotia Business Hall of Fame and awarded the Order of Nova Scotia in 2015.
