Church Point (NS), January 5, 2022– Université Sainte-Anne offers its heartfelt congratulations to Frederick (Ted) Leighton, adjunct professor in the Department of sciences, who has been appointed to the Order of Canada for his contributions to veterinary medicine as a clinical pathologist and as an internationally renowned scholar specializing in wildlife disease.
Her Excellency the Right Honourable Mary Simon, Governor General of Canada, made the announcement on December 29th.
Professor Emeritus at the University of Saskatchewan, Dr. Leighton is an expert in wildlife health, infectious disease ecology, epidemiological surveillance programs, health risk analysis and capacity building in these areas in developing countries. He was the founding director of the Canadian Wildlife Health Cooperative.
In the fall of 2020, he was named a Distinguished Member of the American College of Veterinary Pathologists (ACVP).
The Order of Canada is one of our country’s highest civilian honours. Created in 1967, it recognizes outstanding achievement, dedication to the community and service to the nation.
