Bailey Ross

Church Point (NS), September 21, 2017– Université Sainte-Anne is proud to welcome its first student accepted into the Halifax Scholars Program offered by the Metro Care and Share Society. Bailey Ross, originally from Digby, is on his way to complete a Bachelor of Arts / Bachelor of education in order to pursue a teaching career.

He is one of two students chosen for the program this year and will benefit from a full scholarship at Université Sainte-Anne.

Being the first in his family to speak both English and French, Bailey hopes to share his passion with his future students, both locally and globally. “I strongly believe access to learning should never be seen as a privilege but instead as a right,” explains Bailey. “Over the years I've dedicated my time to volunteering and raising funds to help others. For instance, I was involved in building schools in both Ecuador and Nicaragua. I hope to be able to continue to make a difference both here in Canada and abroad.” His family and friends are extremely proud of his accomplishments, even more so the fact that he is fluent in Canada's both official languages.

Bailey recognizes the advantages that come with being bilingual, which is why he has chosen to complete Université Sainte-Anne's new Integrated French Immersion Option while he is pursuing his degree. This option will allow him to develop a considerable degree of proficiency and confidence in French as well as allow him to graduate with no delay.

“Since French as a second language teachers are currently in high demand across the country, it's encouraging to see young leaders like Bailey embark on a teaching career. His future students will no doubt be inspired by his journey and his desire to learn”

- Hughie Batherson, vice-president of partnerships and recruitment at Université Sainte-Anne.
